Recently, a teacher reached out to us about a recording that was graded in this way (listen to the audio file below):
The teacher was puzzled because although the student misses the words “rains” and “grass” in paragraph 2 on his first attempt, he tries again and is able to read both sentences correctly.
This is how we regraded the recording:
Notice that in the regraded transcript, the student’s initial attempts to read the 2nd paragraph are marked as insertions, and he receives credit for reading the 2nd paragraph correctly. This ensures that the student is not over-penalized, when he in fact reads “rains” and “grass” correctly.
